My Space - Tanya

Tanya has always been a favourite singer/songwriter of mine.. She is so talented that she should be placed with the likes of famous Singaporean songwriter/producer Lee Wei Song and Lee Si Song. Her amazing voice and songwriting skills have indeed wowed many since her first album.

The album that she recently came out with is My space. An acoustic live performance of some of her most famous songs. This is a great album that showcases her powerful yet soothing voice, and of course, her amazing songwriting skills. But amazingly, there are a few nice english songs on the menu that is a perfect blend to the compilation. One of my favourites would be 'Is it over now?' Tanya's take to it has a more lounge feel... And of course, this english version of the song is a perfect demo to the one sung by Karen Mok.. Other english songs include blower's daughter and change the world, which offers a nice alternative to the original singers...

However, songs like 记念 and 达尔文 are just a few of my favourites in the album.. The lyrics and song blend so well together, just makes you wonder how are these songs written in the first place.. And with Tanya's immaculate voice, its just pure bliss to be able to listen to it in the comfort of your room..

Well, dont take my word for it, listen to it for yourself, 'My Space', truly a great compilation album fit for a great singer/songwriter...

Kun Lae Kun (Gun Lae Gun)

Hmm.. I dunno the actual english title for it.. some says its You and Me, hopefully it is.. ha

Anyway, the song is in the movie Love of Siam, which opened in Thailand in nov 2007. Well, its not in Singapore, and probably never will be because of its 'controversial' theme, but I watched it through some 'ahem' means and its actually not bad.. A 2.5 hours long movie though, I heard the director's cut for it is 4 hours.. o.0 Anyway, it really is a sad movie I think.. ha..

Actually I think the movie is superb, the theme in there may be hard to accept but I think its so pure and real that its hard to deny.. Oh well, watch it for yourself to get what I mean... =)

Xin Qing Rong Ji - 回忆

Yea, the results are out and.. Im not in the final 10... Yeap, kinda sad.. But as this is my 1st chinese composition, I guess Im not particularly too upset, just that it is the last year that I can enter the competition. Oh well, didnt have enough time to remake another version, so I sent in the earlier version. Oh well, no comments from 2 judges and the last judge said that melody had no hook.. Ha.. I leave the song here for your opinion.

Collide by Howie Day

Yea, I guess you all know this song by now, one of my favourite song by Howie Day. For those of you who just cant get enough of it, heres the original version, acoustic version as well as the piano version.. haha.. will add more if I find any more versions of it.. Enjoy!!!

CD Review - 不会分离 by 光良

Finally after almost 2 years since we last heard 光良 on his last album with his all time famous K hit, 童話, that even those who dont speak chinese have learnt to sing it. Ha. His new album was out in early november. I must say, its really one that is worth waiting for. Many artists have asked for him to compose songs for them and till now I know why.

This is another string of self composed love ballads and I must say, its so K friendly that its gonna top the K charts sooner or later..

The 1st hit of the album, 不会分离, is a classic style of 光良. Not as easy to memorize and sing like 童話, but it sure grabs on to your heartstrings with his sincere voice and heartfelt lyrics. I Am Who I Am (我就是我) is another song inside the album that is always heard on the radio way before the album came out, and its another easy to play and sing ballad that Im sure everyone will fight their way to the karaoke to belt this out...

My current favourites in the album would be 住在遥远的星球, 女孩别哭 and 惊叹号. Especially 女孩别哭, its such a heart warming song that I think every guy should learn how to sing. The songs are so ear-friendly that I can repeat them over and over again without getting bored.

In all, I think this album is a decent one, not that spectacular or different from his previous ones but nevertheless an album worthy to listen to. Seldom do albums have more than 1/2 their songs being able to have potential no. one hits but I think this album sure has quite a few. This is surely one of the better albums this year if you are looking for some company over the holidays, it sure stirs up good memories of school days...
